Many people use the Meal Prep at SC Real Foods. But it’s a relatively new phenomenon so many people don’t know what it means.
As a society, it used to be typical to cook and eat our evening meals at home. Then we used the leftovers for lunches. But busy families and working professionals don’t have time or energy to do much of that anymore.
But we still need to eat!
It’s too expensive and time-consuming to dine at a sit-down restaurant every night. And eating fast food all the time is unhealthy and unsatisfying.
So where do our lunches and dinners come from? Many people are turning to meal prep to solve this problem.
Meal prep allows us to:
• Eat at home
• Eat the kinds of foods and ingredients of our own choosing
• Get our evening meals on the table quickly
• Have ready-made lunches
• Avoid eating out
• Intentionally portion your food
Have you ever made a large pot of soup and used it for several meals during the week? That’s meal prep!
The basic steps of meal prepping include doing all the planning, grocery shopping and food preparation for an entire week in one shot. And then we can enjoy the benefits all week long.
Here are a few examples of the many styles:
• Cook entire meals so all we need to do is reheat.
• Pre-cook proteins and clean/chop vegetables & carbs to make lighter work of each evening’s meal prep.
• Prepare “freezer meals” that only need thawing and heating (known as Once a Month Cooking or OAMC).
I’ve done all variations over the years and it’s helped me tons, especially in the busier seasons of life.
